Tutti

The design for
this large cushion was inspired by a still life on my kitchen
table one hot summer day. The 1950's wire fruit bowl and the
wonderful combination of reds, yellows and oranges was begging
to be translated into a needlepoint design.
Stitching this design is great fun because the background
is just right for when you have a bit more time or just want
to relax and not think too much. The fruits and basket on
the other hand are quick to do and really satisfying because
you can see the picture emerge quickly.

Bottles

The idea for the
"Bottles" cushions came to me while sketching the
seemingly infinite variety of bottles and vases I saw on holidays
in Asia. As I love a collection of almost anything, putting
the bottles together was a real joy. The design is also fun
to stitch, as there is so much variety of shape and colour.
The selection of blues in this design are just beautiful and
will look great in a variety of settings.

Bottles
Too

These multi coloured
bottles are almost jewel like. They are not colours I use very
often, but for me they are the colours of Asia and I love how
they work together. I have made this design several times and
have been delighted by how completely different the cushion
can look depending on how it is finished. I have used a mauve
Thai silk and a mint green linen. Each fabric highlighting a
different colour. Both results were quite lovely!

Autumn

The "Autumn"
cushions were inspired by several pieces of 1950's fabric that
I've collected over the years. While they were all quite different,
they all had in common the stylised leaf motif, abstract shapes,
and futuristic lines so typical of the times. I played with
a number of sketches until I came up with this surprisingly
contemporary design. The warm tones of "Autumn Red"
will compliment a wide range of fabrics and interiors.

The "Autumn"
design can of course be used as single "feature",
however I think they work particularly well as a pair. "Autumn
Blue" is certainly the "coolest" of the "studio
stitches" collection. This design is particularly popular
for and by men.

Cuppa

The cuppa design
is a personal favourite. I find the image of a cup and saucer
somehow cheery - it brings promises of a chat a "cuppa"
tea (or coffee), a nibble of something and most importantly
someone to share it with.
